Assessment in this Course:

Throughout this course you will have the opportunity to engage in different forms of assessment throughout our Learning Experiences, to inform your learning and progress within this course.

Slide10 (2).png

Diagnostic Assessment:
  • To determine strengths, weaknesses, skills and prior knowledge of learners before instruction begins
  • This practice will enable the Instructor to be able to adjust their instructional strategies appropriately before instruction begins, in order to meet the needs of all students. Allows for appropriate Differentiated Instruction Choices.
  • Examples: Include the e-tivities in each 'Learning Experience' (LE) that will Activate prior learning, and gets you thinking about Key Learning Goals within each Learning Experience module.
Formative Assessment:
  • This will regularly occur throughout the Learning Experiences of the Course. You will not be graded, but this is effective feedback that you can use to help inform your teaching practice.
  • Examples: Includes the e-tivities that help you to 'Aquire' and Apply knowledge as we work through the LE's.

Summative Assessment:
  • Course Instructor Assessment Feedback charts that are evaluative in nature and are usually given at the end of a module. You will find this Feedback submitted at the end of each Learning Experience to your Dropbox. You will find Dropbox located in your Course Menu.
  • A final task to measure the progress of candidates. Diagnostic and Formative Assessments will greatly inform our choices and how we bring together our final culminating tasks for each e-tivity.
  • Culminating tasks that bring together all of the information from the module: These can include, but are not limited to: Prezi, Powerpoint, Keynote, Explain Everything, Animoto, Sliderocket, Glogster, Wiki, and the list can go on.

The following Chart is created by, and Copyright of ETFO and will hopefully serve as guiding points to help you understand more clearly what kinds of Summative feedback you will receive. This will help inform you as you participate and engage in your learning within the course as well:

Assessment According to Ontario's Growing Success Document:

Educators in Ontario are to engage in 3 types of Assessment of learners: Assessment for Learning, Assessment As Learning & Assessment of Learning. The following section will explain how these forms of Assessment will be used within this course, Librarianship Part I.

Assessment for Learning:
  • Seeking and interpreting the evidence! As your Instructor, I will use Diagnostic data right from our Introductions, to understand where you are starting from, working from, where you need to go, how best to get there. This is a very fluid process, and based on individual needs.

Assessment as Learning:
  • This is essentially the Formative Assessment that will take place in the form of ongoing peer feedback, self-assessment, and ongoing instructor feedback. This is to help improve your learning, and enables all candidates to monitor progress!

Assessment of Learning:
  • This is the assessment that essentially becomes part of the public record: whether or not the candidate is Recommended to obtain the Librarianship Part I qualification. You will receive final feedback in the form of written statements about how you have done in the LE, and what you have learned.

The Following Link is an Overview of Assessment from the EduGains Website.
